2009 Apr 7: Calling all potential candidates

A meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 (location to be advised) to nominate a candidate for the next federal election.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in running to be the Green Party candidate in the next Federal election (whenever that may be), please contact maryann@danforthgreens.ca.

Nomination papers must be submitted to the above address no later than April 7, 2009.

According to the Toronto Danforth Federal Green Party Association’s constitution, candidates cease to be candidates after election day. The Association must hold a nomination meeting with the following stipulations:

  1. 30 days written notice must be given to all members.
  2. Members must have had active membership for 60 days prior to the nomination meeting.
  3. Any and all people wishing to run to be the candidate must submit a letter to that effect which is signed by two active members, no later than 14 days prior to the nomination meeting.

As there is currently a minority Parliament, an election can be called at any time. Therefore, we are holding a nomination meeting on April 21, 2009 to allow prospective nominees to sign up new members between now and February 20, 2009.
