“Walk the Don” is a free 2km guided tour of the rain gardens of Riverdale.

It is sponsored by the Don Watershed Regeneration Council and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).

The “Walk” features seven of the rain gardens of Riverdale that were implemented as a project carried out by Citizens for a Safe Environment under the city’s Community Program for Storm Water Management.

Michael Cherendoff, of the TRCA is leading the walk while Karen Buck, Project Manager and President of Citizens for a Safe Environment, will provide the commentary, so that by the end of the tour, all participants will understand how a rain garden is constructed, how downspouts are disconnected, and, how rain is used to replenish our local watershed not overload our sewer system appreciate why the city has implemented a by-law requiring mandatory downspout disconnection.  Gain a new appreciation for environmental actions that have been taken in Toronto’s Riverdale area.
