Why the Green Party is essential

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has once again been forced to admit that the outlook for climate change is bleaker than they had previously predicted.  The reason I joined the Green Party is that no other party comes close to addressing the scale and severity of the problem.

Even if the Green Party doesn’t elect a single representative, a Green vote is a vote for sanity.  It will push other parties to take this threat more seriously.  Consider these statements from the article linked to above:

A rise of two degrees centigrade in global temperatures – the point considered to be the threshold for catastrophic climate change which will expose millions to drought, hunger and flooding – is now “very unlikely” to be avoided, the world’s leading climate scientists said yesterday.

“Ten years ago we were talking about these impacts affecting our children and our grandchildren. Now it is happening to us.”
