Not that this is a big surprise.
This is great news. Part of the problem with fighting climate change with traditional government departments is that they get under each other’s toes. I’ve always wanted an overarching body to coordinate efforts for the massive economic restructuring required. Today, the Toronto Star reported that Premier McGuinty appointed Hugh MacLeod to do just that. He reports directly to the Premier. This is great news. I can only hope that Mr. MacLeod is the right man for the job and that he’s given the necessary tools to do it.
Note that this article isn’t even anti-nuclear. But still it points out that current nuclear technology is fundamentally incapable of solving global warming. The scale of nuclear buildout that would be required would have each batch of nuclear reactors simply fuelling the construction of the next batch, and world emissions rising as quickly as ever.
They suggest investing in nuclear to make it more efficient. I rather think there’s been too much “investment” in nuclear already.
